Iron Girl brings together women of all ages and empowers them to pursue healthy, active lifestyles.
Launched in 2004, the series includes more than a dozen events each year across the globe, including duathlons and triathlons and running distances from 5K to half marathons. The event holds the distinction of being ACTIVE’s first On-Site app user.
At Your Fingertips
Iron Girl takes pride in its early adopter status, having debuted the ACTIVE OnSite mobile app at its Del Mar event in 2011. Multiple volunteers assisted with checking in participants. “We found that registration went so much faster,” says Judy Molnar, vice president.
On-Site eliminates many of the steps in traditional check-ins, reducing a previously lengthy process.
“Our participants simply walk up, swipe their driver’s license and grab their packet. They don’t have to look through lists or search for the right line. They just swipe and go.”
Quick and Efficient
Molnar says it’s easy to use the product—all you need is a smartphone. “It’s a snap,” she says. Participants are usually familiar with checking in using smartphones and appreciate the ease of use. With up to five minutes sliced off individual check-in times, they’re left with plenty of time to prepare for the race.
Easy Race Day Registration
A seamless registration experience means Iron Girl can keep registration open longer. Previously, they would cut off registrations 30 minutes prior to start time to allow forms to be entered manually. This means more registrations, no last-minute chaos and more time to focus on event production.
“Our participants like it and think it’s fun. At every event we’ve used On-Site, I hear them saying ‘That’s cool.’ or ‘That was easy.’”
Timer Coordination
The On-Site app completely eliminates timers’ need to enter paper forms, preventing errors in the process. On-Site syncs with ACTIVEWorks® Endurance, so the timer can simply log into the system and download the new registrations instantly.

Going Forward
Once Iron Girl experienced ACTIVE On-Site, they never looked back, and they plan to expand it to packet pickup. “It’s not just for race day. We do early packet pickups the week before the race. We can use On-Site for that now,” Molnar says. “Our participants simply walk up, swipe their driver’s license and grab their packet. They don’t have to look through lists or search for the right line. They just swipe and go.”
